We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which the Bwgaman Aboriginal Land Trust stands, and we pay our deepest respects to Elders past and present. We honour their enduring connection to Country, culture, and community, and recognise the strength, resilience, and knowledge they continue to share with future generations.
For Aboriginal people, Country is more than land — it is identity, culture, and family. Caring for Country means respecting its sacred places, protecting its natural resources, and ensuring its stories live on. At the Bwgaman Aboriginal Land Trust, we work to keep this connection strong by managing the land sustainably, preserving cultural heritage, and creating opportunities for our community to gather, share knowledge, and pass traditions to future generations.
About the Bwgaman Aboriginal Land Trust
The Bwgaman Aboriginal Land Trust was established to hold and manage land granted under the Aboriginal Land Act 1991 (Qld). Our responsibility is to ensure that the land remains in Aboriginal ownership and is used in ways that protect its cultural significance, environmental value, and community purpose.
This land has been held in trust for more than 40 years and continues to be a vital part of our cultural identity. As Traditional Custodians, we work to balance the preservation of heritage with opportunities for sustainable development, ensuring the benefits are shared within our community.
We engage with Elders, community members, and relevant organisations to make decisions that reflect cultural values and support the aspirations of our people. Our work is guided by Aboriginal law, the Aboriginal Land Regulation 1991 (Qld), and the deep cultural knowledge passed down through generations.
